A Letter to My Art

Inside PlushArt: A practice rooted in creating tactile works that connect art, memory, and stillness

Art, to me, has always been a quiet companion, something that helps me slow down, listen, and reconnect with the world in softer ways.

Over the years, that quiet connection evolved into PlushArt, a creative practice rooted in building 3D tactile artworks that merge sculptural texture, colour, and emotion to capture the stillness and rhythm of nature. Each piece begins with a spark,  a memory, a landscape, or an imagined world that grows through layers of recycled materials, resin, acrylics, and organic textures.

These are not just paintings; they are 3D immersive landscapes, handmade to be felt as much as they are seen.

The artist behind the landscape: Moni Vems

One of my earliest works, Interstellar: The Maan’s Planet, was born from the idea of isolation and endurance. Inspired by the barren landscapes of deep space, it carries an otherworldly calm. A monochromatic expanse where light moves across ridges.

In contrast, Age of Empires: Lost Civilization draws direct inspiration from the world-building of the Age of Empires video game series. It explores the terrain of memory and nostalgia. A reimagining of evolving lands where nature and architecture meet. The piece invites a sense of rediscovery, of looking down at a world that feels both ancient and alive.

Then came Aldabra Atoll: The Veil of Calm, a circular landscape celebrating untouched ecosystems and the serenity of balance. Inspired by the turquoise waters and thriving flora of the Indian Ocean’s Aldabra Atoll, the piece embodies stillness, a quiet world preserved in resin, moss, and wood.

The Subway: Nature’s Tunnel shifts that calm into motion. Formed with swirling layers of recycled paper, clay, and paint, it mirrors Zion’s natural subway. Working on it felt like tracing the memory of erosion, each curve shaped to mimic the slow persistence of nature’s flow.

With Pirates Bay: Curse of the Sea, I let imagination take the lead. It’s bold, cinematic, and full of movement. The textures capture that playful tension between the known and the mysterious, as if a hidden story lies beneath its layered surface.

These are just a few of the many landscapes that live within PlushArt. Each 3D mixed media piece I create is its own small world,  shaped by curiosity, memory, and emotion. Every layer carries a story; every texture, a feeling.

While each work stands on its own, together they form a collection of moments where stillness, colour, and imagination meet.

That’s why I keep creating,  not just to make something beautiful but to build worlds that feel alive, grounded, and at peace.

My hope is that those who experience these pieces can feel that same calm. A connection to nature, to stillness, and to the quiet textures of life that move beneath the surface.
